Llosh Winne is a carpenter, bowl turner and Cajon drum builder in North Kohala, on the Big Island of Hawai’i. Serving as an apprentice, Llosh learned to turn bowls from renowned, Hawai’i-based bowl turner Larry Zeidman.
Llosh has worked with wood since he was a child in Homer, Alaska. Growing up on his dad’s forested property in Homer, Llosh spent his childhood days chopping firewood for their wood stove and exploring the trees, canyons, and wildlife on his father’s land. Llosh learned carpentry skills and the art of building with wood from his father, starting at the age of 7. In addition to turning bowls and building drums, Llosh is a carpenter and a musician.
“I started building drums because I love playing them. I feel there is something spiritual to drumming. Like a heartbeat, drumming is a connection to the purest roots of time and nature. Drumming is a fundamental trigger that effects mood and environment. My cajons are hand-made and custom-built to meet the needs of each drummer. I am Customer-driven. My drum-building is an artistic, creative, collaborative process with extreme attention to detail. I build solid instruments that are durable and dynamic, with a big sound and a high quality. My mission is to create two styles of drums: the first is affordable for any player and the second is the best sounding cajon of the highest quality. I want to focus on exotic woods, specifically Hawaiian woods”
Llosh Box Drums are unique because they are three to four playable surfaces. Based on the idea of a drum kit, I strive to build the ultimate Cajon that is playable on as many sides as possible to offer a variety of sounds. My mission is to focus on the deep tones of a kick drum all the way up to high tones. The benefit of a Llosh Box Drum is easier travel for musicians by alleviating the drummer’s challenge of having to travel with a lot of equipment.
